Your Air Conditioning Thermostat Can Save You Money!
The Air Conditioning Thermostat is often called "the brain" of an air conditioning system because it tells your system what to do.
There are basically two (2) types of air conditioning thermostats; The Electromechanical Thermostat and the Electronic Thermostat.
Electromechanical Thermostat: With this thermostat, you can reduce your electric bills by manually adjusting the thermostat settings.
For the summertime, the savings are best when you set the thermostat at approximately 78 degrees or higher. For each degree you raise the thermostat setting, you can reduce cooling costs by about 8%.
During the winter, the savings are best when you set the thermostat at approximately 68 degrees or lower. For each degree you lower the thermostat, you can reduce costs by about 1%.
You can reduce your electric bills even further by adjusting the temperature settings for when your away from home.
There is a bit of inconvenience involved with having to manually adjust your thermostat settings....but it is well worth the effort.
However, there is no longer a need to manually adjust your thermostat if you buy a programmable electronic thermostat.
Electronic Thermostat: (programmable) This type of Air Conditioning Thermostat allows you to maximize your energy savings automatically...while your at home or away.
For instance, you can program this thermostat to turn off an hour or two before you wake up for work, and to turn back on an hour before you get home from work. The possiblities are endless and its convenience is second to none!
Your Air Conditioning Thermostat Fan Settings
Most Air Conditioning Thermostats have two (2) fan settings: "Auto" and "On". If you set this to the "On" position, the fan runs continually. On "Auto", the fan is activated only during the cooling or heating cycle.
If you want to filter your air constantly, change your air filters more frequently, and pay an extra $20 bucks or so per month in added electricity usage, then go ahead and set your thermostat to the "On" position.
Otherwise, leave this on "Auto" and SAVE!
